Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has issued a strong call for urgent reforms in Ghana’s built environment, warning that the country’s growing urban chaos and poor construction standards pose serious threats to lives, trust and national development.
Speaking at the 10th Anniversary celebration of MC Bauchemie Ghana, Ing. Agyepong said the collapse of buildings and declining standards should not be treated as mere engineering failures, describing them instead as “national warnings” that demand decisive action.
He stressed that the future of Ghana’s cities and communities depends on a deliberate commitment to proper planning, discipline, professional excellence and courage.
“When buildings collapse, lives are lost. When standards fall, trust collapses with them. These are not merely engineering failures; they are national warnings,” he said.
According to Ing. Agyepong, Ghana cannot continue to develop its communities through uncontrolled urban expansion and weak enforcement of planning and building standards.
He called for an end to what he described as an era of lawlessness, urging stakeholders to work towards creating more livable communities where proper planning promotes beauty, discipline, job creation and sustainable development.
He emphasised that nations are not built by chance but through vision, discipline and courage, anchored by built-environment professionals who uphold excellence and refuse to compromise professional standards.
Ing. Agyepong said the built environment plays a critical role in shaping the quality of life of citizens and must therefore receive the attention it deserves from policymakers, professionals and the wider public.
The remarks were made as MC Bauchemie Ghana marked its 10th anniversary, celebrating a decade of growth, excellence and contribution to Ghana’s construction industry.
Congratulating the company on the milestone, Ing. Agyepong commended MC Bauchemie Ghana for what he described as a decade of “building with purpose” and wished the company many more years of impact and success.
His message comes amid growing concerns over building safety, unplanned urban development and the need for stronger adherence to professional standards in Ghana’s construction sector.
