Tottenham Hotspur have strongly condemned what they described as “vile, dehumanising racism” directed at defender Kevin Danso following their 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Danso, who joined Spurs in 2025, was subjected to abuse on social media after a late error allowed Georginio Rutter to score an equaliser in stoppage time—leaving Tottenham in the Premier League relegation zone.

In an official statement, the club confirmed that the “significant and abhorrent” abuse has been reported to police and relevant authorities. Spurs vowed to pursue the strongest possible action against those responsible.

“Kevin has our complete and unconditional support as both a player and a person,” the club stated. “No one at this club will stand alone in the face of such behaviour.”

Tottenham emphasised that poor performance can never justify discriminatory abuse, describing the messages directed at Danso as criminal and unacceptable.

The incident occurred during the Premier League’s No Room For Racism campaign, which aims to promote inclusion and combat discrimination in football.

Responding publicly, Danso said the abuse would not define him or distract him from his career.

“I know who I am, what I stand for, and why I play,” he said, rejecting the hateful messages.

The Premier League also condemned the incident, reiterating that discrimination has no place in the sport and warning that offenders could face bans and legal consequences.

Anti-discrimination organisation Kick It Out expressed support for Danso, praising his response and calling for stronger accountability, particularly from social media platforms.

The case adds to a growing number of racist abuse incidents in English football this season, with several players across clubs recently targeted. Authorities, including the UK Football Policing Unit, are continuing investigations into multiple reported cases.
