A tipper truck under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) of the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly has been involved in a serious accident, prompting the formation of a five-member committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The vehicle reportedly crashed into a building at Konkoli near Trede in the Atwima Kwanwoma District, also damaging a parked Mercedes Benz with registration number GW-7851-Z.
Speaking in an interview with Kwame Tanko on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show on Lawson TV/Radio, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom, Hon. Anwel Sadat Ahmed, explained that the DRIP machine was rented out for use by the Ayeduase Assemblies of God.
He stated that the equipment is often hired by residents, churches, and individuals for various approved purposes.
Hon. Sadat Ahmed dismissed reports suggesting that the vehicle had not been sent for repairs, and confirmed that a five-member investigative committee has been established to examine the incident and the circumstances leading to the crash.
Meanwhile, the incident has generated tension within the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly, with some individuals calling for accountability from the DRIP Coordinator, Raphael Tampuri, as well as the MCE.
According to a source within the Assembly, the truck was allegedly engaged in private commercial activity—specifically sand transportation—at the time of the accident, raising concerns about possible misuse of government resources.
The source further claimed that officials had earlier been informed the vehicle was faulty and undergoing repairs, making its involvement in the crash unexpected.
The accident is reported to have occurred on Easter Monday, April 5, 2026, a public holiday when official government operations were suspended.
The damaged vehicle has since been transported to a workshop at Suame Magazine for repairs as investigations continue.
