The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has extended its deepest condolences to Berekum Chelsea following the tragic death of forward Dominic Frimpong, while also calling for swift justice for those responsible.
Frimpong was confirmed dead after sustaining a gunshot wound during an armed robbery attack on the club’s team bus on Sunday night.
The team was returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex when the incident occurred on the Bibiani–Goaso road.
Reports indicate that armed robbers blocked the road, forcing players and officials to abandon the bus and flee into nearby bushes in a bid to escape.
During the chaos, several players sustained injuries, while Frimpong was shot in the head.
The 20-year-old striker, who was on loan from Aduana FC, was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
In a statement, the GFA described the incident as a devastating loss not only to Berekum Chelsea but to the entire Ghana football community.
The association confirmed it is in close contact with the club and relevant authorities, including the Ghana Police Service, as investigations into the attack continue.
The GFA further urged security agencies to ensure that those behind the attack are arrested and prosecuted.
The tragic incident has reignited concerns over the safety of clubs travelling on major highways for league matches.
In recent years, several clubs including FC Savannah, Wa All Stars, Legon Cities, and AshantiGold have reportedly experienced similar attacks, highlighting ongoing security challenges in domestic football travel.
