The Ghana Police Service has carried out a series of intelligence-led operations targeting cybercrime, violent offences, and organised criminal activity, resulting in multiple arrests nationwide.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Grace Ansah‑Akrofi, Director-General of the Police Public Affairs Department, briefed the press in Accra, highlighting several major cases.

Two individuals were arrested for producing and distributing AI-generated deepfake content impersonating former President John Dramani Mahama and Mrs Lordina Mahama. The material, widely circulated on Facebook, TikTok, and WhatsApp, was intended to deceive and defraud the public.

Bernard Mensah, known online as “Charity Quaicoe,” was apprehended between Kasoa and Kokrobite for impersonating Mrs Mahama in financial scams. Another suspect, Michael Ebo Safo, was arrested at Anyan Abaasa in the Central Region for operating a fake account impersonating the former President. DCOP Ansah‑Akrofi reminded the public that creating and sharing deepfake content is a criminal offence under Ghanaian law.

In a separate incident, John Kwabena Owusu‑Ansah was arrested in Antoakrom, Ashanti Region, after a viral video showed him issuing threats and making allegations against High Court Judge Justice Patricia Quansah. He was taken into custody following a petition by the Judicial Service.

The Police also apprehended Eric Kenny in connection with the February 13, 2026, murder of 56-year-old farmer Enoch Obiri in Suhum Municipality. Kenny, who had allegedly threatened the victim over a personal dispute, was found at Kwahu Sikamu after going into hiding.

In a crackdown on organised crime, four suspects were arrested for a series of jewellery store robberies in Accra and Takoradi between April and October 2025. The alleged mastermind, Abdul Aziz Mamoud, also known as Justin Martin, an American national, led the gang in stealing jewellery worth millions of cedis from locations including Westlands, Dzorwulu, and East Legon. Items recovered included a hammer, motorbikes, a toy pistol, and jewellery equipment. The suspects confessed, and authorities are working to apprehend a receiver of the stolen goods.

Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohonu praised the officers involved and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to combating crime. The Police also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities online or in their communities to help maintain law and order.
