Dr. Zenator Agyemang Rawlings has urged Parliament to prioritize affordable and accessible food services within large corporates and institutions to enhance worker welfare.

Speaking on the parliamentary floor, Dr. Rawlings highlighted the challenges faced by low-income earners who often rely on roadside vendors for meals, exposing themselves to health and safety risks. She emphasized the need for structured, hygienic, and reasonably priced food options for employees.

The MP cited successful examples such as the Rollings Canteen and the Opebia House food court, noting that such initiatives have improved worker productivity, supported healthier lifestyles, and contributed to more orderly urban spaces.

Dr. Rawlings called on regulatory authorities to establish guidelines requiring large institutions to incorporate cafeterias or food courts within their premises. She stressed that this would enhance worker welfare, support urban planning, and promote compliance with local regulations.

She also urged stakeholders—including private sector players and civil society organizations—to collaborate on policies and planning frameworks that make affordable and safe food services widely available.

Her intervention comes as Ghana navigates challenges related to urbanization, food security, and worker well-being, making her call a timely contribution to the ongoing national conversation on sustainable urban development and employee welfare.
