Mahama Charges Economic Advisory Group to Be Frank, Independent and Evidence-Based

President Mahama directs the 12-member advisory group to provide independent, data-driven guidance to strengthen Ghana’s economic policies and support recovery efforts

President John Dramani Mahama has urged the newly inaugurated Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE) to provide frank, independent, and evidence-based advice in guiding Ghana’s economic policy.

Speaking at the group’s inaugural ceremony on Wednesday, February 11, the President highlighted the need for objective, data-driven recommendations as the country works to strengthen its economic recovery.

He tasked PAGE with proposing policy adjustments where necessary and providing expert input into Ghana’s economic negotiations with bilateral and multilateral partners, international financial institutions, and investors.

President Mahama further directed that the advisory group report directly to him through advisory memoranda, briefs, and strategic reviews whenever required. He stressed that all guidance must serve the long-term national interest.

“Your counsel is expected to be frank, independent and evidence-based,” the President said, emphasising that effective economic management relies on honest assessments and strategic foresight.

The establishment of PAGE is aimed at strengthening economic governance by offering high-level advisory support to the Presidency on critical fiscal and structural reforms.

Members of the Advisory Group

PAGE comprises Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang; economist and private sector leader Kwame Pianim; and industrialist Sir Samuel Esson Jonah.

Other members include Ishmael Yamson, private sector leader and former PAGE member; Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa, former Deputy Minister of Finance and Trade and former PAGE member; Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana and former Finance Minister; and Ato Brown, former World Bank Infrastructure Specialist and agribusiness investor.

The group also features Dr. Henry A. Kofi Wampah, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana; Togbe Afede XIV, economist and private sector leader; Abena Amoah, CEO of the Ghana Stock Exchange; Prof. Priscilla Twumasi Baffour, university professor and researcher; and Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor, PhD, university professor and academic researcher.
