President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a 12-member Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy, tasked with providing strategic guidance and policy recommendations to transform and strengthen Ghana’s economic landscape.

The committee will assess prevailing economic conditions and propose measures aimed at stabilising the macroeconomic environment, boosting investor confidence, and promoting inclusive growth across the country.

Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is among the members, alongside distinguished economist and private sector leader Kwame Pianim, and renowned industrialist Sir Samuel Esson Jonah.

Other notable members include:

  • Mr. Ishmael Yamson, private sector leader and former PAGE member

  • Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa, former Deputy Minister of Finance and Trade

  • Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana and former Finance Minister

  • Ato Brown, former World Bank Infrastructure Specialist and Agribusiness Investor

  • Dr. Henry A. Kofi Wampah, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana

  • Togbe Afede XIV, economist and private sector leader

  • Ms. Abena Amoah, CEO of the Ghana Stock Exchange

  • Prof. Priscilla Twumasi Baffour and Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor, University Professors and academic researchers

At the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, President Mahama emphasised the importance of coordinated economic planning and evidence-based policy decisions to address current challenges.

“I do not want this committee to misunderstand my optimism in the advice you will offer as an endorsement of an easy task ahead. You are qualified to know that we face a tough road ahead, regardless of the progress we may have chalked today,” he said.

He urged committee members to leverage their expertise in proposing practical, forward-looking solutions and to work closely with relevant ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure their recommendations align with national development priorities.

The advisory group is expected to play a key role in supporting the government’s agenda to strengthen local enterprise, enhance productivity, and achieve sustainable economic development.
