The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged its presidential aspirants to place unity above personal ambition, warning that emerging victorious in the party’s primaries alone will not guarantee success in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking at the peace pact signing ceremony for flagbearer hopefuls ahead of the January 31, 2026, primaries, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong stressed that no single candidate can lead the party to victory without the collective support of fellow members.
“None of you, even after winning the primaries, can secure victory in 2028 on your own. You will need the support of your brothers to win the elections,” he said.
Mr Kodua Frimpong explained that the primaries should be seen not just as an internal contest, but as an opportunity to consolidate the party and prepare for the national elections. He assured aspirants that the party leadership is committed to ensuring reconciliation and inclusiveness once the primaries are concluded.
“As party administrators, we are ready to provide all the support needed, including a structured reconciliation process after the elections, to bring everyone on board and rally the party toward victory in 2028,” he stated.
All NPP presidential aspirants signed the peace pact, which forms part of the party’s broader strategy to maintain cohesion and prevent internal divisions from undermining its electoral chances.
Political observers note that such agreements are critical in managing intense internal competition, adding that early reconciliation among aspirants could significantly strengthen the NPP’s prospects ahead of the 2028 polls.
The January 31 presidential primary will determine the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections, with party leaders emphasizing unity as the foundation for future success.
