Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a contender in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries, has called on party delegates to place their trust in his leadership and vote for him.

He said the choice delegates make will have significant implications for the future of both the party and the country, stressing the need for a candidate with proven experience in governance and economic management.

Dr. Bawumia made the appeal while addressing delegates and supporters in the Asawase Constituency during his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region. The NPP is scheduled to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.

According to him, the party must present a candidate with a strong track record and measurable results in key sectors if it hopes to regain political power.

Outlining his vision for party reorganisation, Dr. Bawumia announced plans to introduce a Database Welfare System (DBWS) to consolidate and provide easy access to information on party members. He also pledged that, under his leadership, 3,000 of the 7,000 governance appointments would be allocated to constituencies to promote fairness and inclusiveness.

Additionally, he proposed a Constituency-Based Budget System aimed at identifying and addressing constituency-specific challenges in a timely manner.

Referring to findings from internal party committee reports, Dr. Bawumia attributed the party’s recent electoral defeat to what he described as a “one-man-chop syndrome,” assuring delegates that such practices would not recur under his leadership. He urged party members to remain united and appealed to delegates to give him the mandate to lead the NPP forward.

During the visit, Dr. Bawumia also helped reconcile Manaf Ibrahim, Alidu Seidu, and Ali Suraj, who had previously been at odds.

He was accompanied on the tour by several party figures, including former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Kofi Jumah, Collins Ntim, Simon Osei Mensah, Ben Abdullah Banda, Saalim Bamba, Dr. Ayew Afriyie, Kennedy Kankam, and Alhaji Mohammed Moro.
