The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has installed 240 new solar-powered streetlights as part of efforts to address widespread concerns over faulty street lighting, which has made night-time commuting unsafe for residents.

Speaking to the media on Friday, January 16, KMA Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi said the assembly has also begun repairing malfunctioning streetlights across the city and will continue the exercise until all streets are properly illuminated.

He explained that the assembly is adopting a comprehensive approach to resolve streetlight challenges and appealed to residents for patience as the work progresses.

“We have also started repairing all other streetlights in the city. We will work until we reach a point where light is everywhere within KMA,” the mayor stated.

The installation of the new solar streetlights, together with the ongoing repairs, forms part of KMA’s broader strategy to enhance safety and security and improve night-time mobility across the metropolitan area.
