In a passionate appeal to party delegates, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reject inducements and vote buying in the party’s upcoming presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The former NPP General Secretary and veteran public servant officially declared his intention to contest the flagbearership on Tuesday, July 30, 2025 — the same day the party opened nominations for aspirants seeking to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

Addressing a gathering of party faithful, supporters, and former Members of Parliament at the launch of his campaign headquarters, Ing. Agyepong stressed the urgent need for the party to return to its core values of service, sacrifice, and integrity. He warned that the creeping culture of monetisation within internal party elections posed an existential threat to the very soul of the NPP.

“Delegates, do not sell your vote for grains that cannot change your life. Vote for values! Vote for principles! Vote for a leader who has proven, over decades, that others matter most in service,” he charged.

Drawing a powerful analogy, he referenced a story involving Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, who allegedly plucked the feathers off a fowl only to win its loyalty by scattering a few grains of food.

“Year after year, some politicians strip us of dignity, reduce us to unthinkable levels of poverty, and when elections come, they throw a little money, a piece of cloth, or a bag of rice—and we follow them blindly. This cannot continue!”

Ing. Agyepong, who served as Press Secretary to former President John Agyekum Kufuor and later as General Secretary of the NPP, reiterated his commitment to restoring hope in Ghana’s political leadership. He positioned himself as the most credible and unifying candidate to bring the NPP back to its founding ideals and offer a new dawn of accountable and transformational leadership.

He also extended an olive branch to former NPP presidential hopeful Alan Kyerematen, urging him to return to the party and contribute to the rebuilding process.

The seasoned political figure, who survived personal tragedy with the assassination of his father, Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong, during Ghana’s turbulent political past, said his life’s journey had prepared him for the leadership the party and the country need now more than ever.

“We need clean hands, a clear mind, and a compassionate heart to lead our Party and this nation. I, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, stand ready to work with you, ready to rebuild, and ready to restore hope for every Ghanaian,” he declared.

The NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, confirmed that nominations will close on August 28, 2025, and the party’s presidential primaries will be held on January 31, 2026. Nomination forms cost GHS 50,000, and filing comes with a non-refundable fee of GHS 100,000.

As the race to lead the NPP heats up, Ing. Agyepong’s message of clean politics and values-driven leadership appears to be striking a chord with a grassroots base eager for renewal.
