Story Highlights
  • The Electoral Commission has received funds from the Ministry of Finance to pay temporary staff from the 2024 General Elections.
  • Payments are expected to be completed on or before Friday, June 20, 2025
  • The payment comes seven months after the election

After months of silence and frustration, the Electoral Commission of Ghana has confirmed the release of funds to pay its temporary staff who worked during the 2024 General Elections.

The announcement, signed by EC Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa, came today, June 12, 2025—exactly seven months after the polls.

In an official statement, Mrs. Mensa disclosed that the Ministry of Finance had disbursed the long-awaited funds for the allowances. “The Commission is working round the clock to ensure that payments are made promptly,” the statement read. According to the EC, temporary staff can expect their allowances no later than Friday, June 20, 2025.

The delay in payments had sparked public outcry in recent weeks. A group of affected workers had even stormed Lawson TV/Radio’s Ghana Se Sen morning show to demand answers, amplifying pressure on the Commission and the government. Their protest appears to have paid off, as today’s announcement signals what some describe as “light at the end of the tunnel.”

The EC also expressed gratitude to the temporary staff for their patience and cooperation during the extended delay.

As Ghana inches closer to future elections, questions remain about how such bureaucratic lapses will be avoided to protect the welfare of critical frontline electoral workers.
