The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has called on Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), the clergy, the media, and traditional leaders to speak out against what he described as the government’s recent attacks and arrests involving NPP supporters.

Speaking to the media, Mr Kodua expressed concern over the treatment of some party members, warning that failure to address the situation could have future political consequences.

“If nothing is done about the recent attacks and arrests of NPP members, and power changes hands after the 2028 elections, no one should blame the NPP,” he stated.

He stressed that the NPP would continue to hold the government accountable and ensure that state institutions act within the laws of the country.

According to him, Articles 14 and 19 of the 1992 Constitution clearly spell out the rights of individuals who are arrested, including being informed of the offence committed and having access to legal representation of their choice.

Mr Kodua made the remarks in relation to the arrest and detention of the NPP Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.

He also criticised what he described as the “Rambo-style” arrest and detention of the regional chairman, arguing that due process and respect for human rights must always be upheld.
