- Community volunteers helped arrest the suspects and recover stolen items
- Each sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty in court
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced the successful conviction and sentencing of three armed robbers involved in a violent robbery incident in Boubai, a suburb of the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
The suspects — Mamudu Issah, Samuel Takyi, and Alhassan Abubakari, all aged 18 — were sentenced on July 8 by the Atasemanso Circuit Court in Kumasi after pleading guilty to charges including conspiracy to commit robbery and seven counts of robbery. Issah also pleaded guilty to an additional charge of causing harm.

According to police reports, the robbery took place on July 1, 2025, between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. The trio, alongside three other accomplices who are currently on the run, launched a machete-wielding attack on residents while riding unregistered motorbikes. Victims were robbed of mobile phones, bags, and cash.
The suspects were captured later that same day at their hideout in Aboabo, thanks to the vigilance and swift intervention of community volunteers. Ten mobile phones and three bags believed to have been stolen during the attack were recovered and handed over to the police along with the suspects.

The court sentenced Mamudu Issah to 10 years for each robbery-related charge and an additional three years for causing harm, to run concurrently. Takyi and Abubakari each received 10 years’ imprisonment on the robbery charges, also to run concurrently. All three have since been transferred to the Central Prisons in Kumasi to begin serving their terms.
In a statement, the Ashanti Regional Police Command praised the community’s cooperation.
“We express our appreciation to members of the public, particularly the community volunteers, for their swift response and assistance,” the statement read.

“We urge all citizens to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by promptly reporting suspicious activity.”
The police have also launched a manhunt for the remaining accomplices and are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to their arrest.
