Reuben Solomon Jabari, a miner and contractor, has emphasized that the fight against illegal mining requires collective commitment and practical strategies from all stakeholders, including the government, communities, and miners themselves.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Lawson TV, Solomon Jabari urged the government to adopt pragmatic approaches in dealing with illegal mining rather than treating all miners as offenders.
“Illegal mining can be tackled, but it takes commitment from everyone,” he said. “The government must work with genuine miners, not against them.”
He also suggested innovative ways to repurpose abandoned mining sites, proposing that the many open pits left behind could be transformed into fish farms—creating new economic opportunities while addressing environmental concerns.
“This can be a lucrative venture if properly managed and supervised by the government,” Solomon Jabari noted.
He further called for open dialogue and consultation with miners, emphasizing the need to streamline the mining sector through inclusive policies and proper regulation.
“It’s time to engage the people on the ground and put systems in place that make mining safe, sustainable, and beneficial to the country as a whole,” he added.
