Free SHS Suppliers to Picket Education Ministry Over GH¢50 Million Debt
NAIS says members have gone unpaid since 2023 despite supplying uniforms and school materials under the Free SHS programme.

- NAIS will picket the Ministry of Education on June 11, 2026
- Suppliers are demanding payment of about GH¢50 million owed under the Free SHS programme
- The debt relates to uniforms, house dresses, and school cloths supplied since 2023
The National Association of Institutional Suppliers (NAIS) has announced plans to stage a picket at the Ministry of Education on June 11, 2026, to demand the payment of outstanding debts owed to its members under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 3, the association said the protest has become necessary following the government’s failure to settle approximately GH¢50 million owed to suppliers of uniforms, house dresses, and school cloths delivered to public senior high schools.
According to NAIS, its members have not received payment for supplies provided since 2023, despite numerous engagements and appeals to the relevant authorities.
The association indicated that the prolonged delay has placed severe financial pressure on suppliers and is threatening their ability to continue supporting the implementation of the Free SHS policy.

“The picketing aims not only to draw the government’s attention to our plight but also to urge the immediate release of funds owed to NAIS members,” the statement noted.
NAIS expressed hope that the demonstration will underscore the urgency of the matter and compel the government to take swift action to settle the outstanding debt.
The association has also appealed to the media to provide extensive coverage of the planned protest to help amplify its concerns and attract the attention of key stakeholders.
The picketing exercise is scheduled to take place at the Ministry of Education on June 11, 2026.
