The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Justin Frimpong Kodua, has called for fairness and due process in the application of the law following the remand of the party’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe Abronye, popularly known as Abronye DC.

Mr Kodua stated that the NPP does not oppose investigations or police invitations involving its members, but insists that legal procedures must be followed without political influence.

According to him, the law should apply equally to all citizens regardless of political affiliation, stressing that justice must not be selective.

Mr Kodua accused the governing National Democratic Congress administration of allegedly targeting individuals who criticise the government or hold opposing political views.

He argued that legal processes should operate strictly within constitutional and legal boundaries and not be used as tools for political intimidation.

Commenting on the court’s decision to remand Abronye DC, he described the ruling as troubling and questioned the basis for the remand order.

He argued that relying on claims that the accused could commit similar offences without any prior conviction sets a dangerous precedent and could lead to prolonged detention based on allegations alone.

Mr Kodua also expressed concern about public confidence in the judiciary, warning that perceptions of political influence could damage trust in the justice system.

He called on the Judicial Council of Ghana to ensure judges remain independent, neutral and guided by constitutional principles and professional standards.
