Telecel Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting digital literacy among young people with the launch of the Ashanti edition of its Codes 2026 Initiative, aimed at equipping 1,000 pupils with coding and digital skills for the future.

The programme was officially launched on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at the Nana Afia Kobi Serwah Ampem II Public Library at Ashtown in Kumasi, bringing together education stakeholders, pupils, teachers and officials from Telecel Ghana.

The initiative forms part of Telecel Ghana’s broader efforts to bridge the digital divide and prepare the next generation for opportunities in the rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Through the programme, selected pupils across the Ashanti Region will receive practical training in coding, problem-solving, critical thinking and other essential digital competencies.

Speaking at the launch, officials of Telecel Ghana underscored the importance of introducing children to technology and innovation at an early age, stressing that digital skills have become indispensable in today’s world.

According to the company, the programme seeks to inspire pupils to develop an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)-related fields while empowering them to become creators of technology rather than just consumers.

The beneficiaries are expected to undergo structured coding sessions facilitated by trained instructors, with the goal of nurturing future software developers, innovators and entrepreneurs capable of contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.

Education stakeholders at the event commended Telecel Ghana for the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that aligns with national efforts to strengthen digital education and improve technological proficiency among schoolchildren.

The launch of the Ashanti Code 2026 Initiative at the Nana Afia Kobi Serwah Ampem II Public Library marks another milestone in efforts to provide equitable access to digital learning opportunities for pupils across the region.

The programme is expected to impact 1,000 pupils in the Ashanti Region, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
