The Adabraka District Court has granted GH¢30,000 bail with two sureties each to two individuals accused of damaging a tombstone at the Osu Cemetery.

The accused, Joseph Donkor, 35, faces a charge of unlawful damage to a tombstone belonging to the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, while Eric Tawiah Annang, 62, is charged with abetment. Both pleaded not guilty and are scheduled to reappear in court on 24 March 2026. One alleged accomplice remains at large.

Police Chief Inspector Apewah Achana presented the facts, stating that Annang is a contractor and Osu resident, while Donkor is a labourer living near the Arts Centre.

According to the prosecution, on 8 February 2026 at around 8:00 a.m., the cemetery sexton and a witness were patrolling the Osu Cemetery following reports of illegal grave digging. During the patrol, the witness heard noises and discovered Donkor and his accomplices attempting to disinter a grave after damaging the tombstone.

The witness instructed them to stop and directed them to accompany him to his office. On the way, Annang allegedly confronted the witness, claiming he had authorized the work because he had a permit.

The municipal task force later arrived at the scene, but the accomplices fled. Donkor and Annang were arrested and taken to Osu Police Station for further investigations. During questioning, both admitted to the offences and were subsequently charged to appear before the court.
