‘Our Focus Is Power, Not English Lessons’ – Chairman Wontumi
Chairman Wontumi says the NPP's priority should be reclaiming political power rather than focusing on academic credentials or English language proficiency.

- Wontumi prioritises power over certificates.
- He rejects calls for English lessons.
- He vows to lead the NPP back to victory.
Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi and an aspirant for the National Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that his primary goal is to help the party regain political power rather than pursue academic qualifications or improve his English proficiency.
Wontumi stressed that the NPP’s main priority should be returning to government after its defeat in the 2024 general elections. He argued that the party’s efforts should be focused on winning elections instead of debating educational credentials or language skills.

“We want power, not certificates,” he declared, adding that he has no plans to enrol in English language classes or any formal academic programme.
According to him, leadership should be measured by a person’s ability to organise, mobilise support, and deliver electoral victories rather than by academic achievements or fluency in English.
Wontumi maintained that the current political environment requires strategic planning and effective mobilisation to restore the NPP’s position in government.
“I have not decided to take any English course or lessons. I am not interested in competing in an English debate,” he said, reiterating that his focus remains on helping the NPP return to power.
He also highlighted the need to rebuild the party and address the factors that contributed to its electoral loss. Wontumi expressed confidence that the challenges he has faced in politics have strengthened his leadership qualities and prepared him for the task ahead.
“We were in power, we lost power, and now we want to regain it. My focus is on how we can achieve that, and I believe I have what it takes,” he stated.
Reflecting on his political journey, Wontumi said he has been transformed by his experiences and is now better equipped to lead the party.
“The Wontumi people knew before is no longer the same. There is a new Wontumi today. The difficulties and challenges I have gone through have shaped me and prepared me to lead the NPP to victory,” he said.
