The Narcotics Control Commission (Narcotics Control Commission) has arrested several suspects and seized quantities of suspected illegal drugs following coordinated anti-narcotics operations in parts of the Greater Accra and Oti Regions.
In a statement issued on May 18, 2026, the Commission said the intelligence-led operations were carried out over the weekend as part of an ongoing nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse.
The operations in the capital targeted identified drug hotspots in Kissieman, Dome, and Kwabenya within Accra, while a parallel exercise was also conducted in Alavanyo in the Oti Region.
According to NACOC, various quantities of suspected narcotic substances and materials believed to be linked to illicit drug activity were retrieved during the raids. All arrested individuals are currently in custody, assisting with investigations as authorities prepare for prosecution.
However, the Commission did not disclose the exact number of suspects arrested, the types or quantities of drugs seized, or the identities of the officers involved.
The weekend operation forms part of a broader enforcement campaign NACOC has intensified across Ghana throughout 2026.
Earlier in the year, the Commission conducted a four-day operation across Greater Accra and the Eastern Region, leading to arrests in Ashaiman and the seizure of cannabis, hashish, hashish oil, and cannabis-infused products such as drinks and toffees in areas including Circle, Avenor, and Labadi. Authorities at the time warned of a growing trend in which traffickers package narcotics in attractive forms targeting young people.
On May 1, 2026, NACOC extended its operations to Winneba ahead of the Aboakyiri Festival in the Effutu Municipality, where additional arrests were made and suspected drugs were seized.
Earlier, on April 30, 2026, the Commission intercepted a 40-foot trailer carrying about five million tablets of Tapentadol 250mg, believed to be en route to Niger. Four suspects were arrested in connection with the shipment, which investigators believe is part of a wider cross-border trafficking network.
