Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged President John Mahama and the current NDC administration to swiftly arrest and prosecute those responsible for the violent scenes during the parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North on July 11.

The chaos erupted at St. Peter’s Polling Station when a group of unidentified thugs stormed the area, disrupting the voting process and physically attacking NPP parliamentary candidate Nana Akua Afriyie and former Fisheries Minister Hawa Koomson.

Dr. Bawumia condemned the attacks, stressing that the perpetrators were clearly captured on video and must be held accountable.

“I call on the president and those in charge to act. If they don’t, we won’t forget. Sooner or later, justice will be served,” he warned.

The incident, which triggered panic and disrupted voting temporarily, highlighted security lapses despite a heavy police presence. The rerun was held in 19 polling stations after unresolved issues from the 2024 general elections left the constituency unrepresented in Parliament.

Although the NPP boycotted the rerun, candidate Nana Akua Afriyie contested as an independent, escalating tensions and making the violent incident even more politically charged.
