Story Highlights
  • Ama K. Abebrese criticizes the government for appointing men accused of sexual misconduct to high-profile positions.
  • She warns that such appointments send the message that abuse against women may go unpunished or even be rewarded.
  • Her comments follow the appointments of Kwasi Kyei Darkwah and Professor Ransford Gyampo, both previously linked to sexual indiscipline cases.

Ghanaian actress Ama K. Abebrese has publicly criticized the government for appointing men with histories of sexual misconduct to key leadership positions.

In a social media post, she argued that no serious nation would reward individuals accused of sexually assaulting or harassing women with influential roles. She emphasized that such appointments send the wrong message, implying that misconduct against women carries no consequences.

“There is no serious country that will appoint men who have a documented history and allegations of sexual assault/sexual harassment against females to high governmental positions. It sends the message that men can abuse females and be rewarded. Do Better Ghana,” Abebrese wrote.

Her remarks follow broader discussions about ethical leadership and the importance of thorough vetting of public office holders, particularly regarding gender-based misconduct.

The comments come in the wake of the appointments of Kwasi Kyei Darkwah as Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Caribbean Region and Professor Ransford Gyampo as CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, both of whom have previously been linked to cases of sexual indiscipline.
