Sinner Breaks Djokovic’s Masters 1000 Record with Dominant Miami Win

Italian star continues dominant run, setting new benchmark at Masters 1000 level

Story Highlights
  • Jannik Sinner breaks Novak Djokovic’s record for most consecutive sets won at Masters 1000 events.
  • The Italian secures a dominant straight-sets victory over Corentin Moutet to reach the last 16 of the Miami Open.
  • Sinner eyes the rare “Sunshine Double,” last achieved by Roger Federer in 2017.

Jannik Sinner set a new benchmark at ATP Masters 1000 level after surpassing Novak Djokovic’s long-standing record for the most consecutive sets won.

The Italian world number two achieved his 25th and 26th straight sets at this level with a commanding 6-1, 6-4 victory over Corentin Moutet at the Miami Open. The match lasted just 71 minutes, underlining Sinner’s current dominance.

Sinner had already matched Djokovic’s previous record of 24 consecutive sets in his opening-round win against Damir Dzumhur, but went a step further with this latest performance.

Speaking after the match, Sinner expressed his satisfaction but remained cautious, noting the unpredictable nature of tennis and the importance of staying focused heading into the next round.

The 24-year-old has been in exceptional form, winning his last two Masters 1000 titles—at Indian Wells and Paris—without dropping a single set.

Against Moutet, Sinner took control early, winning the majority of points in the opening stages and wrapping up the first set in just 22 minutes. He maintained that intensity in the second set, securing a crucial break before comfortably closing out the match.

Next, Sinner will face American Alex Michelsen in the last 16 as he continues his pursuit of the “Sunshine Double”—winning both Indian Wells and the Miami Open in the same season. The last player to achieve that feat was Roger Federer in 2017.
