Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has underscored the critical importance of keeping Ghana’s judiciary truly independent, fair, and within reach of all citizens. He stressed that the courts must prioritise protection for the weak and vulnerable, not bend to the influence of the powerful.

During his swearing-in ceremony on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Jubilee House in Accra, the new Chief Justice highlighted the judiciary’s responsibility to deliver justice equitably, without favour or fear.

“Our judiciary must remain independent, impartial, and accessible. It cannot operate in service of the powerful or well-connected while neglecting the vulnerable. It must guard its freedoms, yet remain committed to accountability, transparency, and ongoing reform,” he stated.

His message aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s renewed pledge to safeguard judicial independence, delivered during the same ceremony.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s comments reflect his broader mission: a justice system that strictly adheres to the rule of law, respects court rulings regardless of public sentiment, and drives continuous reforms to ensure openness and fairness for every Ghanaian.
