Story Highlights
  • Kwame Tanko blasts the Electoral Commission for failing to pay temporary staff hired for the 2024 elections
  • Thousands of workers remain unpaid five months after the polls
  • Tanko demands a public explanation and immediate action to settle outstanding allowances

Outspoken morning show host Kwame Tanko has expressed strong frustration over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) failure to pay temporary staff recruited for the 2024 general elections.

Speaking passionately on his show Ghana Se S3n on Lawson Radio/TV, Tanko questioned why, five months after the election, individuals who worked under strenuous conditions to support Ghana’s democratic process have still not been paid.

The EC engaged thousands of temporary workers—Technicians, Presiding Officers, Ballot Issuers, Verification Officers, and Name Reference Officers—to assist in various aspects of the electoral process.

According to reports, Presiding Officers were promised GHS 800, while the other roles were to receive GHS 600 each.

Tanko criticized what he called a clear breach of contract, asking why the EC would delay payment without offering any public explanation.

“These are citizens who dedicated their time and energy to ensure our elections ran smoothly. Where is the money the Commission promised them? Why the silence?” he fumed.

He further demanded that the EC issue a statement and take immediate steps to settle all outstanding allowances.

Tanko’s call adds to growing public concern over accountability and fairness in the treatment of temporary workers within state institutions.
