A Senior Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr. Rebecca Essel, has called for the integration of the Perfect Series Basic Schools Assessment Contest (PSBSAC) into Ghana’s education system, describing it as a powerful tool to improve learning outcomes among students.
Speaking as the Guest of Honour at the finals of the Perfect Series Basic Schools Assessment Contest (PSBSAC) Northern Sector, Dr. Essel emphasized that Ghana stands to gain significantly if such initiatives are embraced nationwide.
“Ghana has a future if we adopt the Perfect Series Contest in our education system,” she stated, pointing to the impressive performance of participating students as evidence of the country’s academic potential.

According to her, one of the key challenges in education is not just teaching, but ensuring that students retain and apply what they learn. She stressed the need for structured study skills programmes that equip learners with techniques to understand and remember lessons effectively.

“What we can do to help the students is to organize study skills programmes for them and engage teachers who have in-depth knowledge in specific subject areas. When students are taught how to learn, it stays in their minds, and they will not struggle during examinations,” she explained.
Dr. Essel further revealed her intention to recommend the contest to government authorities, expressing hope that it would receive the necessary support to expand and possibly gain international recognition.

“It is my fervent wish that this contest goes international,” she added.
She noted that the level of performance displayed by students during the contest reflects a promising future for Ghana, especially if such educational models are sustained and strengthened.
“If you look at the performances of these learners, you will see that Ghana indeed has a bright future,” she said.
The PSBSAC, organized by Perfect Series Publications and Stationery, continues to gain recognition for promoting academic excellence and critical thinking among basic school students across the country. Stakeholders believe that with increased support, the initiative could play a significant role in shaping the future of education in Ghana.

Reverence Preparatory and JHS emerged as the winner of the Northern Sector finals of the 3rd edition of the Perfect Series Basic Schools Assessment Contest (PSBSAC), cementing its place as a rising force in Ghana’s basic education landscape.
The highly competitive contest brought together some of the brightest young minds across the sector, with schools battling through intense rounds of questions that tested depth, speed, and critical thinking.
At the end of the contest, Reverence Preparatory and JHS secured the top spot with an impressive 378.5 points, taking home the ultimate trophy, 6000 GHS cash prize, medals, certificates, and citations.
Closely following was Unique Educational Complex, which scored 377 points to place second, earning 4000 GHS alongside trophies and other prizes. Eldia Montessori claimed third position with 368.5 points, receiving 3000 GHS and a similar package of awards.
Konadu Educational Complex finished fourth with 341 points, while OA Legacy International placed fifth with 329.5 points. The only government school in the competition, Bosomtwe STEM Academy, secured sixth place with 325.5 points, a performance many observers described as commendable given the level of competition.
By virtue of their outstanding performances, Reverence Preparatory and JHS, Unique Educational Complex, and Eldia Montessori have qualified to represent the Northern Sector at the national championship to be held in Accra, where they will face top contenders from the southern sector.
