World Vision Ghana has called for renewed national commitment to end child hunger and preventable diseases, stressing that no child should suffer or die from conditions that can be addressed.

Speaking ahead of the launch of its five-year national strategy in Accra, the organisation’s Director of Strategy and Integrated Programmes, Joshua R. Baidoo, highlighted the persistent challenges facing children in rural and vulnerable communities despite progress made at the national level.

He noted that many children remain trapped in cycles of poverty, lacking access to adequate nutrition, healthcare, and essential services.

“In a world of abundance, it is unacceptable for any child to go to bed hungry or die from a preventable disease,” he said.

Ambitious Five-Year Strategy

The new strategy, themed “HOPE for Every Child,” aims to reach 2.8 million vulnerable children over the next five years.

It focuses on scaling up interventions in key areas such as food security, healthcare, education, and child protection, with a stronger emphasis on impact-driven programmes.

Complementing Government Efforts

The National Director of World Vision Ghana, Tinah Mukunda, emphasised that the organisation’s work is designed to support—not compete with—government initiatives.

She explained that World Vision’s programmes, currently implemented in 43 districts across 14 regions, are aligned with Ghana’s National Development Plan and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

“Our role is to complement government efforts and help bridge service gaps in vulnerable communities,” she stated.

Key Interventions and Partnerships

World Vision Ghana continues to collaborate with key institutions to strengthen its impact, including:

  • Partnering with the Community Water and Sanitation Agency to expand access to clean water and sanitation.
  • Working with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to enhance child protection laws and policies.
  • Implementing the THRIVE 2030 initiative to boost livelihoods and increase incomes for thousands of households through agribusiness and financial inclusion.

A Call to Action

The organisation stressed that addressing child hunger and preventable diseases requires collective action from government, development partners, and communities.

With the launch of its new strategy, World Vision Ghana aims to drive meaningful change and ensure that every child has access to basic needs, protection, and opportunities to thrive.
