President John Dramani Mahama has issued a directive to the Ministers for Interior, Transport, and Foreign Affairs to urgently collaborate and expedite the implementation of Ghana’s long-awaited e-visa system.

The move is part of government efforts to modernize travel procedures and leverage recently commissioned technologies, including the Air Navigation Services (ANS) and the Multi-Agency Command Centre, which support the Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) systems.

Speaking at the facility launch on Monday, August 4, President Mahama emphasized the importance of integrating these systems across air, sea, and land entry points. He also called for alignment with e-gate systems and enhancements to cargo information processing to benefit customs operations.

“The digital transformation of our travel system will not only streamline visa applications but also cut bureaucracy, support tourism, and boost Ghana’s appeal as a business destination,” the President said. “The future of global travel is digital—and Ghana must lead, not follow.”

The e-visa initiative is expected to reduce paperwork, fast-track approvals, and encourage more international visits, aligning with Ghana’s broader push for digitization and economic growth.
