Court Remands ‘Mamprobi Baby Thief’ for 14 Days

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded 33-year-old Latifa Iddrisu in police custody for 14 days in connection with the alleged theft of a newborn from Mamprobi Polyclinic. She is scheduled to appear before the court again on March 4, 2026.
The suspect allegedly stole the baby on February 18, 2026, reportedly dressed as a nurse. CCTV footage from the facility showed her carrying the infant in what appeared to be a sack and leaving the premises. The footage quickly circulated on social media, sparking public outrage.
The incident occurred shortly after the baby’s mother had delivered via cesarean section on February 17, 2026, causing panic among staff and patients.
Police arrested Iddrisu, a cloth seller in Accra, at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on February 18, where she was found in possession of the baby. She was later transferred to Mamprobi Polyclinic under the Dansoman Divisional Police Command for questioning and identification procedures.
Authorities confirmed the infant’s identity after the mother verified a distinctive birthmark on the left leg, allowing the safe reunion of the baby with her family and bringing relief to the parents after the ordeal.
