The Ghana Police Service has intercepted a truck transporting more than 3,000 slabs of suspected narcotic substances in the Greater Accra Region, while two individuals have been arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe officers investigating the case.

In a statement released on Wednesday, February 18, the Tema Regional Police Command disclosed that the operation was carried out in the early hours of February 15.

According to police, an intelligence-led operation by the Regional Patrols Unit led to the interception of a Sinotruck tipper truck with registration number GN 993-14 at Sege Akpla Manya. The vehicle was reportedly loaded with fertiliser sacks concealing 3,009 slabs of plant material suspected to be cannabis.

Officers indicated that the driver fled the scene upon noticing the police presence, abandoning the truck and its cargo. The vehicle and suspected narcotics have since been impounded at the Tema Regional Headquarters to support ongoing investigations. Authorities say efforts are underway to apprehend the driver and determine the ownership of the truck.

In a related development, two men—Victor Asigbey, 40, and Peter Asigbey, 35—were arrested on February 16 at about 7:10 p.m. for allegedly attempting to bribe officers at the Regional CID Office in Tema. The suspects reportedly offered GHS150,000 in cash in a bid to secure the release of the impounded truck and the suspected drugs.

Police confirmed that the cash has been seized and retained as evidence. The two suspects remain in custody assisting with investigations and are expected to appear in court on February 18.

The Tema Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug-related crimes and maintaining professionalism and integrity in its operations.
