Nana Oye Bampoe Addo has been honoured with the Excellence in Governance Award at the 11th edition of the Ghana Women of the Year Honours held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra on Friday, May 8, 2026.

The annual event, organised by Glitz Africa, celebrated outstanding women whose contributions continue to shape national development across sectors such as governance, education, healthcare, media, entrepreneurship and humanitarian service.

The Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration) was recognised for her contributions to public service, governance, human rights advocacy and women’s empowerment in Ghana.

Delivering her acceptance speech, Hon. Nana Oye Bampoe Addo reflected on the women who influenced her personal and professional journey, paying tribute to her mother and grandmothers for instilling in her values of courage, sacrifice, integrity and resilience.

“I stand before you on the shoulders of three great matriarchs in my life,” she said while acknowledging the women whose guidance inspired her leadership and activism.

She described leadership and governance as a continuous pursuit of justice for the vulnerable and marginalised, stressing the importance of truth, service and impact in public office.

“For me, governance and leadership have been a quest for justice for the weak and marginalized,” she stated. “It is a passion and an innate desire to put smiles on faces and wipe away tears of despair.”

Hon. Oye also spoke about the sacrifices and challenges she has faced throughout her years in public service and advocacy, noting that her commitment to national development remains steadfast despite moments of rejection and betrayal.

She dedicated the award to women who have overcome abuse and hardship, as well as young girls who have remained in school through advocacy and support initiatives.

This year’s ceremony also recognised several distinguished African female leaders, including Joyce Aryee, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award, and former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who was honoured with a Special Recognition Award for her impact on leadership and governance across Africa.

The event featured performances, tribute sessions and special recognitions aimed at celebrating women whose leadership and service continue to inspire future generations.
