Prince Kofi Amoabeng, founder of the now-defunct UT Bank, has described former President John Dramani Mahama as an exceptionally humble and grounded leader—calling his humility a rare national asset.

In an interview, Mr. Amoabeng shared that his bond with Mahama dates back to the era when Mahama served as Vice President.

Their connection was first established through First Lady Lordina Mahama, with whom he enjoyed close and informal interactions.

He recounted that their friendship naturally became less frequent when UT transitioned into a fully-fledged bank around 2009–2010, a period he described as extremely demanding.

Despite this distance, Amoabeng insists Mahama has remained the same—humane, approachable, and remarkably humble.

He praised the former president for his ability to relate effortlessly with people from all walks of life.

Reflecting on their friendship, he said:
“We shared intimate moments—we had drinks and ate together back when he was Vice President. When UT became a bank, I got busy and the friendship became distant. But President Mahama is incredibly down-to-earth, humane, and extremely humble. Sometimes he even forgets the power he holds. He interacts with everyone, and that’s a rare quality Ghana is lucky to have.”
