The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for introducing what he described as impactful development initiatives since assuming office in January 2025.
Speaking through his spokesperson during the 2026 Eid al-Adha celebrations held at the Black Star Square in Accra on Wednesday, May 27, the Chief Imam commended the Mahama administration for implementing programmes aimed at improving the welfare of Ghanaians and promoting national development.
Among the initiatives highlighted were the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, the Free Primary Healthcare policy, the e-visa initiative, and efforts to deepen conversations surrounding the transatlantic slave trade.
“On the international stage, the Chief Imam says you have truly demonstrated that you are a genuine African leader who fights for all people across the world and stands against injustice,” the spokesperson stated.
The Chief Imam also applauded the government’s management of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage, describing it as one of the smoothest and best-organised exercises in recent times.
“He says he cannot thank you enough, considering the feedback he has received this year about how seamless the organisation of Hajj has been,” the spokesperson added.
Reports indicate that approximately 6,000 Ghanaian Muslims were airlifted to Mecca for this year’s pilgrimage, with many pilgrims expressing satisfaction with the coordination and overall arrangements.
According to the Chief Imam, the government’s initiatives reflect a strong commitment to enhancing the living conditions of citizens while fostering unity and national progress.
