The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has strongly denied reports suggesting it donated GH¢12 million to sponsor the Ghana national football team, the Black Stars.
In an official statement, the Board described the claims as false, misleading, and lacking any factual basis, rejecting allegations that funds meant for cocoa farmers were redirected to support the team.
COCOBOD emphasized that it has never financed the Black Stars nor diverted farmer payments or cocoa sector resources for such purposes.
“At no point has COCOBOD diverted funds meant for farmer payments to support the Black Stars,” the statement clarified.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to its primary responsibility of safeguarding the welfare of cocoa farmers, including ensuring timely payments, providing essential farm inputs, and investing in the long-term development of Ghana’s cocoa industry.
COCOBOD also urged the public to ignore the circulating claims and rely only on its official communication platforms for accurate information.
The clarification comes amid growing public attention over the use of state funds and institutional support for national programs, with COCOBOD assuring stakeholders that farmers’ interests remain its top priority.
