Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin has advised newly sworn-in Ablekuma North MP, Ewurabena Aubynn, to remain humble, focused, and diligent in serving her constituents.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on July 22, he congratulated her and reminded her of the fleeting nature of a four-year mandate, urging her to prioritize learning, presence, and integrity.
“You are the hope of the people. Read everything—not just the Constitution. Serve with humility and vigilance,” the Speaker said, adding that constituents will judge her based on results, not promises. “Four years is just a day—you’ll return to the people for accountability.”
Aubynn was sworn in after winning a tightly contested rerun on July 11, which became necessary after the December 2024 polls in the constituency were annulled due to serious electoral irregularities.
The ceremony was briefly marred by a walkout from the Minority Caucus, who protested the Speaker’s refusal to allow a statement from Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh before the oath was administered.
Ewurabena Aubynn secured 34,090 votes to defeat NPP’s Akua Afriyie, who had 33,881 votes, giving the NDC another crucial seat in Parliament.
