Nana Ohene Ntow, Senior Advisor to Alan Kyerematen, founder and leader of the Movement for Change, has stated that Ghana would have faced catastrophic outcomes had the New Patriotic Party (NPP) secured victory in the recently concluded elections.
Speaking in an interview on Saturday, December 14, Ohene Ntow criticized the NPP for rampant corruption, economic mismanagement, arrogance in governance, worsening hardships, and the unchecked menace of illegal mining (galamsey).
“With the level of corruption, the arrogance of power, mismanagement, economic difficulties, and the destruction of our natural resources, if the NPP had won this election, Ghana was finished,” Ntow asserted.
Ntow highlighted the Movement for Change’s mission, led by Alan Kyerematen, to deliver a compelling call for meaningful, measurable change in Ghana’s governance. He argued that the widespread dissatisfaction with the NPP demonstrated the people’s demand for new leadership to restore hope and accountability.
His remarks follow the December 7 elections, which saw the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Dramani Mahama, win decisively with 56.55% of the vote. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP trailed with 41.61%.
Ntow emphasized that the election result was a strong rejection of the status quo, warning that an NPP victory amid the nation’s mounting challenges would have plunged Ghana into irreversible decline.
While acknowledging that the change brought by the elections might not meet all expectations, he described it as a critical step towards redefining Ghana’s political trajectory and addressing deep-seated issues in governance.
