The lifeless body of a man who drowned during Saturday’s heavy downpour in Kasoa has been recovered at Ironcity, renewing urgent calls to address the area’s chronic drainage failures.

The victim, identified as N.K. Godfred, in his early thirties, reportedly fell into an uncovered gutter while heading home from work during the storm. Witnesses say he tried to cross the flooded drain despite warnings but was quickly swept away by the raging waters.

“He underestimated the danger. People tried to rescue him, but the current was too strong,” a relative told Channel One News.

Godfred’s body was found Sunday afternoon in another part of the Ironcity community.

Residents and local officials attribute the tragedy to incomplete drainage works and poor infrastructure planning. Kennedy Acheampong, Assemblyman for Ironcity-Dokutsekope, stressed that flooding is a persistent issue ignored for years.

“We’ve flagged this drainage problem repeatedly with no action. We urge the MCE and authorities to intervene before more lives are lost,” he said.

NADMO’s Awutu Senya East Director, Nash Nyandey, confirmed several blocked structures worsening the floods and promised engineers will be brought in to implement solutions.

Meanwhile, MCE Seth Sabah Serwonoo Banini warned that illegal buildings obstructing waterways will be demolished to protect residents.

“We will not hesitate to remove any structures blocking water flow. This is about saving lives, not politics,” he stated.

Saturday’s heavy rains submerged several communities, including Opeikuma, Krispo City, Joemens Kpometey, and Dokutsekope. Residents plead for urgent action before the floods claim more victims.
