The Ghana Education Service (Ghana Education Service) has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic deaths of two BECE candidates in the Upper West Region.

The deceased, Taufii Ibrahim and Abdul Khalid, were final-year students of Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School. They lost their lives after the motorcycle they were riding was involved in a fatal accident on Sunday, May 3, while travelling to their examination centre in Wa.

According to reports, the accident occurred as the students were on their way to join colleagues from Charia, reportedly due to the absence of an approved examination centre within their community.

The two were rushed to a nearby health facility, where Taufii Ibrahim was pronounced dead on arrival. Abdul Khalid, who sustained severe injuries, later passed away on Monday afternoon.

In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Daniel Fenyi, GES extended its condolences to the bereaved families, the school, and fellow students.

“We are deeply saddened that these young lives, full of promise and potential, have been cut short under such distressing circumstances,” the statement said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time,” it added.

GES further indicated that it will work with relevant authorities to establish the full circumstances surrounding the accident and explore measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The statement concluded with a prayerful tribute:

“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.”
