A group of former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), led by Leo-Nelson Adzidogah, has renewed its appeal to John Dramani Mahama for the payment of outstanding end-of-service benefits.

In a petition dated February 16, 2026, Mr Adzidogah described the delay in settling the benefits as “increasingly worrying,” stressing that many former MMDCEs are facing financial hardship after dedicating years of full-time service without pursuing other income-generating opportunities.

“Mr President, we devoted those years to serve our country and therefore engaged in no other employment to earn income to serve our families,” he stated, characterising the appeal as a humanitarian request.

The petition follows an earlier letter submitted on December 15, 2025, and a response from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs dated January 13, 2026, which outlined preliminary steps toward addressing the issue. However, the former officials say no concrete action has been taken since.

The group urged President Mahama to intervene, noting that a similar payment process was approved in 2017 by former President Nana Akufo-Addo for MMDCEs who served during Mahama’s first term.

Copies of the renewed petition have also been forwarded to the Office of the Chief of Staff and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs for consideration.
