  • He criticises the management of government programmes.
  • Calls for accountability in the “nkoko nketenkete” project.

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), an aspiring Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed concern over what he describes as increasing hardship in the country.

Speaking in an interview with Kwame Tanko on Lawson TV, COKA alleged that the Mahama-led government has negatively affected the economy, making it increasingly difficult for many Ghanaians to meet basic needs such as paying school fees, providing three square meals a day, and settling utility bills.

The former NPP constituency chairman noted that the party’s time in opposition has brought significant economic pressure on many grassroots supporters. According to him, several party members are struggling financially, making political activities and commitments more challenging outside government.

COKA described the situation as both emotionally and financially demanding, while recalling comments previously made by former President John Agyekum Kufuor about the difficulties associated with operating as an opposition party compared to being in power.

He also expressed surprise at comments attributed to the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, regarding the government’s “nkoko nketenkete” (one-day-old chick) project, particularly the claim that some farmers had misused funds meant for the initiative.

COKA questioned the circumstances surrounding the project and called for greater accountability in the management of programmes aimed at supporting farmers and improving livelihoods.
