Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has firmly denied accusations that he tried to interfere with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) internal processes by pushing for a reversal of its early primaries decision or attempting to delay the upcoming National Delegates Conference set for July 19.
This response comes after media reports suggested he had lobbied for a change in the party’s calendar. In a statement released on Monday, July 14, his office dismissed the reports as entirely untrue.
“President Akufo-Addo, who has been out of the country, has neither submitted any request to the party nor communicated any intention to alter its plans,” the statement clarified.
It further criticized the reports as misleading and politically motivated, stating, “Those behind these stories clearly have their own agenda, which does not align with the best interests of the NPP.”
Meanwhile, the NPP confirmed that the upcoming July 19 conference will proceed as planned and will focus on major constitutional reforms.
This includes a review of the Prof. Mike Oquaye Committee report and an outstanding proposal from the 2019 Delegates Conference in Kumasi, which had received prior approval but had not yet been formally tabled.
