The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has strongly condemned the alleged assault on its personnel during emergency operations at the scene of a fatal fuel tanker explosion at Adubinsu in the Afigya Kwabre South District of the Ashanti Region.
According to the service, firefighters responding to the blaze were met with hostility from some residents, who reportedly pelted them with stones and sachet water while they attempted to contain the fire and carry out rescue operations.
Speaking in an interview, the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, DOII Atta Aheng Mensah, described the incident as unfortunate, noting that the actions of some individuals disrupted critical emergency response efforts.
He appealed to the public to cooperate with emergency responders during such incidents, warning that interference could put more lives at risk.

“When our men got to the scene, they were met with hostilities… There was a lot of stone pelting and even sachet water. It took the intervention of some of the elderly people there to calm these youth down for the men to work,” he said.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, June 4, 2026, when a fuel tanker travelling from Edwenase towards Adubinsu reportedly lost control, somersaulted, and exploded into flames.
The fire quickly spread, engulfing six container shops and a nearby house.
Two people were confirmed dead, while several properties were destroyed before firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control and prevent further spread.
