Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has acknowledged that the club is facing deep-rooted financial, infrastructural and disciplinary challenges that are affecting its progress.
Speaking to South Africa’s Metro FM, Tinkler said his ambition remains to guide the Porcupine Warriors back to the CAF Champions League, but admitted that achieving success will require more than just tactical improvements.
“I came here to be a successful coach. I came here to try and get this club qualify again for the Champions League,” he said.
According to Tinkler, the club is aware of its financial and infrastructural difficulties, while indiscipline within the squad has also been a major concern since his arrival.
“But the club is well aware of the challenges that they face, both financially also in terms of infrastructure,” he noted.
The coach said efforts are being made to create a more professional environment at the club, stressing that several factors have contributed to the disciplinary problems.
“We’re looking to try and create an environment that is more professional. We’ve had to deal with a lot of indiscipline at the club, and I think a lot of that stems from a number of factors, and the club is aware of that,” he added.
Despite the challenges, Tinkler accepts that his tenure will ultimately be judged by results and performances on the pitch.
“I think I will be judged, obviously, on results and performance. But at the same time, the club was well aware of the difficulties that we face,” he said.
