(VIDEO) Afenyo-Markin Urges Mahama to Declare National Mourning for Flood Victims
Minority Leader demands accountability and stronger measures to address Ghana's flooding crisis.

- Afenyo-Markin calls for national mourning.
- Wants long-term flood prevention policy.
- Seeks accountability for GH¢350 million fund.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on President John Dramani Mahama to declare a period of national mourning in honour of those who lost their lives in the recent flooding across the country.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin argued that previous national disasters had been marked with official periods of mourning and said the latest flood victims deserved the same recognition.

He also maintained that the government’s planned two-day nationwide clean-up exercise would not be sufficient to address the country’s persistent sanitation and flooding challenges. According to him, Ghana needs a comprehensive and long-term policy to tackle poor sanitation and reduce the risk of flooding.
The Minority Leader further urged the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, to schedule the Finance Minister to appear before Parliament next week to account for the disbursement of the GH¢350 million allocated for flood disaster response and support for victims.
