Styrofoam Ban: “We Will Deal With You” – EPA Warns Importers Ahead of January 1, 2027

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Prof. Michael Ayamga-Adongo, has warned traders and importers of styrofoam products ahead of Ghana’s planned ban.
The EPA says the ban on the importation, manufacture and use of styrofoam takeaway packs will take effect on January 1, 2027.
Prof. Ayamga-Adongo issued the warning during an EPA sanitation exercise held on August 27, 2026, at the Longford Royal Centre in the Ashanti Region.
During a media panel, a Kumasi-based journalist asked what action would be taken against traders who continue to import styrofoam products after the deadline.
In response, Prof. Ayamga-Adongo said the EPA had given traders enough time to prepare for the implementation of the ban.
He said some people still doubt that the ban will be enforced, but maintained that the EPA is ready to take action against offenders.
