A 39-year-old teacher accused of assaulting a student at Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region has reappeared before the Nyinahin District Court to face the charge.
The accused, Eric Apaflo Buernortey, pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault during his second appearance before the court.

Mr. Buernortey was initially arraigned after the incident, which occurred on June 8, 2026. However, the case was later withdrawn by the police, leading to his discharge before fresh proceedings were initiated.
Presiding over the case, relieving judge Lord Delvin Essandoh granted the accused bail in the sum of GH¢80,000 with three resident sureties within the court’s jurisdiction. The court also ordered him to report to the case investigator every two weeks on Mondays.
The judge cautioned the public against spreading false information about the case, stressing that the court would not tolerate misinformation while proceedings are ongoing.
According to Chief Inspector Eric Owusu, who led the prosecution, the complainant, Patricia Chibu, is an 18-year-old final-year student of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School, where the accused serves as a tutor and caretaker of the adjoining Adusei Hostel.
The prosecution told the court that on June 8, the teacher confronted the complainant and other male students over alleged misconduct at the hostel. During the exchange, the student allegedly insulted and mocked the teacher, leading to a confrontation.
The prosecution alleges that the teacher subsequently assaulted the student.
Following the incident, the complainant reportedly called on some townspeople, who allegedly attempted to attack the teacher. Police officers who arrived at the scene intervened and prevented the situation from escalating, escorting both parties to the police station.
The complainant was issued a medical report form, which was later returned after being completed by a medical officer.
Police subsequently detained the accused, conducted investigations, and obtained a caution statement from him. The case has been adjourned for further proceedings.
