The internal dispute within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bantama Constituency of the Ashanti Region has intensified after a supporter was captured in a viral video invoking traditional deities over a contested constituency executive election.
In the video, the man, who identified himself as Kwame Poku, is seen breaking an egg and a bottle of schnapps while calling on traditional authorities, including Antoa and Akonadi, to punish anyone who acts against a reported court injunction related to the election.

He is heard directing the curses at individuals he accused of attempting to undermine the legal process by going ahead with the disputed polls.
The video has sparked public reactions, with many expressing concern about the rising tensions surrounding the party’s internal electoral process.
The development follows a violent disruption of the Bantama constituency executive election held at the Kumasi Cultural Centre, an incident that led to police intervention, arrests, and the declaration of the venue as a crime scene.
Reports indicate that the election was subject to a court injunction, but sections of the party leadership allegedly proceeded with the exercise. The situation reportedly escalated when some individuals stormed the polling venue, destroying ballot boxes and election materials while attacking officials overseeing the process.
One election official sustained injuries during the disturbance and was taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
Following the incident, the Ashanti Regional Police Command arrested three suspects and commenced investigations. The voting centre was also declared a crime scene to allow authorities to examine the circumstances surrounding the violence and damage caused.
Police investigations are expected to establish the events that led to the disruption, the status of the electoral process, and the involvement of individuals connected to the incident.
The emergence of the viral video adds another layer to the ongoing dispute, as competing factions within the constituency continue to disagree over the election and the reported court injunction.
