The Ministry of the Interior has urged the public to avoid all unnecessary movement and remain in safe locations following heavy rains and flooding reported in several parts of the country on Monday morning.

In a public safety advisory signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Ministry cautioned residents to stay where they are until conditions improve. Those already at home were advised to remain indoors, while those in workplaces or other safe locations were urged not to travel until it is safe to do so.

The Ministry emphasized that motorists and pedestrians should avoid driving or walking through flooded roads, bridges, and waterways, warning that floodwaters can rise rapidly and pose serious risks to life and property.

It further announced that emergency response teams, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), have been deployed to monitor affected areas, assist victims, manage traffic, and conduct rescue operations where necessary.

Residents in flood-prone communities were advised to move to higher ground where possible and to report emergencies or individuals in distress to the nearest security agency.

The Ministry also urged the public to remain calm and rely only on official sources for information regarding the evolving situation.

Emergency contact numbers provided include 18555 or 112 for the Ghana Police Service, 192 for the Ghana National Fire Service, and 112 for NADMO.

The Ministry assured the public that it is closely monitoring developments and will provide further updates as the situation unfolds.
